Relearned Habit — Appreciation

Just a few months ago, I started to feel like my life isn’t as great as people thought it was. I constantly complain about stuff, when I mean stuff, I mean, everything. I am not doing the best in my career life, my personal life, and I don’t even know what life I have. I feel lost.

When I was reflecting on myself during the drive back home, I thought to myself, what else am I missing in life? Love? Uh, no. I am lucky enough to have friends, who would be willing to drive 6 hours just to sit with me and do nothing because I was having a mental breakdown. Family? Um, I mean not in great shape, but I am still able to contribute. Money? I mean, I am pretty okay right now. I am lucky enough to afford a new car after graduation. Success? Uh, I mean, I just graduated, what should I even expect? Then the thought of appreciation came across my mind. I wasn’t appreciating myself and everything I have.

If you are like me, who just wake up in the morning, work during the day, and lay in bed at night scrolling through TikTok. Hey, how about taking a minute to appreciate yourself and everything around you? Reflect on what you have right now, and what you wanted. Are they more than what you got? Or are you still working through your goals? Work towards your dreams, while appreciating everything that happens to you. Obstacles? Uh, so? Just overcome it and keep going. I mean, it is true, it’s easier to say than to act on it. But hey, it is life. Life works that way, doesn’t it? How about keep a smile on your face and overcome those challenges and learn from them?

As I am writing this post, I feel like it is just a reminder for myself to appreciate and also bring it to the public, and remind everyone, “Hey, stop what you’re doing and how about appreciate some things?” Stop, reflect, and appreciate. Breathe in and breathe out. Everything will be fine. Your life is great, depending on how you look at it. Stop focusing on the negatives. Stay focused and stay determined. Determine your own life. You can do it, and believe in yourself.

I am not saying after we appreciate what we have, everything will be fine. I wish it works like this, but it doesn’t. Sad boys and sad girls days are still here, but at least look at it differently. There are always two sides of a story, right? Try looking at the positives. Maybe it will make you feel better. For example, you are able to see the flaws of yourself, but maybe your friends don’t see them until you point them out. How about you be your own friend and see yourself better than you think you are? Look at the positives. “I am not the best looking person, but I mean, I am healthy” right?

To conclude, I just want to say, in today’s climate, it is hard to focus. I would have to admit, as I am on the same boat. Even though it is crazy out there, let’s stop and appreciate one another and what you have. Appreciation does not end, it will only continue in life. Let’s make it a habit today.
